In the pot you go

This is dedicated to my east coast pal Paul Maravetz. Sorry man, but
they were delicious. Had the little guy not gone in the pot the first
time, he wouldn't have gone in the second time.

I miss the nude

The Puke Bowl

Luke Blais

This was out in Carbon Canyon. The bikers from the roadhouse next door
use to get drunk and fuck with us. We hated them. Now it seems like
every skater wants to be a biker these days.

Frontsides all night

Luke Blais Pool Skater

Luke showed me my first pool and told tales of The Nude Bowl. Here he
is in the shallow end. I camped there.

"Straight Edge isn't cool anymore"

This is a photo of my friend Steve's Straight Edge tattoo, it's pure awesome. A guy in a whirlwind of fire with booze, drugs and women flying at him. Of course a nice added touch is the tattoo of the Egg Hunt lyrics, "we all fall down" written underneath. I took this photo at Ian & Ashlyn's wedding where there was no shortage of current and ex Straight Edge dudes. As Steve once put it, "you never really appreciate your Straight Edge tattoo, until you start drinking."

The Ramp is back!

Thanks to Mike and his dog Roger for coming over and handling the ramp all day Friday. We were able to get the ramp back to better than original condition in time for my 34th birthday party. Actually a huge thanks goes out to all the boys for the many nights of the rebuild, The Youngs for hosting the party and of course Tanya for providing the delicious cake. Best birthday skate party ever!...again.

Ramp Work

In efforts to have the best birthday party part 2, we have been busting ass on getting the ramp rebuilt. I sent an update photo to Paul Brown (art genius) and this is what he sent back.

"woah bro hyme!!! is that 6" spacing on those flat bottom cross members? super rugged!! i like it! and that coping can't be stainless can it? it sure looks shiny! that would be fucking awesome!!! the pottery barn of mini ramps!" - Paul Brown

Thanks for the photo edit Paul!

Maloof Money Cup

Over the weekend at the OC fair was the Maloof Money Cup. They call it the greatest Skateboard contest ever or something like that. I'll admit, it's pretty sweet. While they say they replicate all these spots from around the world (Reno, NV, Pioneer School in Upland, etc), the one thing they don't tell you is how they smooth out the kinks and make some of them a little MORE skateable. Not that it matters, all the dudes skating in this thing rip so it doesn't really matter how skateable the obstacle is, they'll kill it regardless.
A shot of the Rincon setup

Tommy Sandoval thought it would be a good idea to ollie the gap from low to high and land in a BS 50-50 above the Brooklyn banks setup and ollie in. We all wanted to watch. He got pretty close Friday night, and sure enough, he was trying it again on Sunday after the contest was over.

After a few attempts Wade Speyer decided he would help Tommy out and push him into the bank once he was locked in on his grind. It didn't really help, but it was nice thought.

Tanya and Wade grew up next to each other so they had a beer together.

This one is for my other favorite person from Danville, Jason Leith

Flight of the Concorde

"Yeah. I came to the conclusion that I hate car payments more than I like cars"
1995 Chrysler Concorde free for me to drive. Takes the pressure off the 1965 Malibu as being my daily driver. Which, the brakes went out on me last week on my way to work. No big deal.

Kuma's Corner

Last week I went to Chicago for a plastics show. I know, bitchin'. Anyway, I've been to Chicago for work before and it involves fancy steak houses and what not. This time, I decided to take the advice of Dan Mac from We Have to Chill Now. and search out Kuma's Corner. I was able to get a partner in crime in on this mission and a $20 cab ride later, we found ourselves out side of a Heavy Metal Burger Bar with an 1.5 hour wait on a Tuesday night. No doubt the wait was worth it. I'd rather book you a ticket to Chicago than explain this place. It's unbelievable. Everyone needs to experience it.

We found the right spot.

Street Dreams

Tanya and I joined the Director Chris Zam and his family and friends to the nationwide premier of Street Dreams Friday night. I even had the opportunity to quietly fan out on Ed Templeton who came out to see the film.
The Film is totally entertaining and if you have any love for skateboarding, you should go see it.

The Master of Disaster

If memory serves me well (I sure fucking hope so), then today is Duane Peters' birthday. If I'm wrong, fuck it. I don't need any of the 3 people that read this thing to tell me otherwise. A couple of years ago, The U.S. Bombs played a show on Duane's birthday out and Fullerton and it was great. I don't think there is show tonight. Duane rules and I wish him a happy birthday and many more.
Do yourself a favor and see this movie. It's one of the best for sure.

Day in, day out

I once heard my friend say, "Nothing says unemployment like a well updated blog." Like Homer Simpson, I found it funny because it was true. I suppose the contrary can be said as well. My blog has been neglected, because thankfully I am no longer unemployed. I now work for the best company on the plant. At least that's what the first sentence says in the employee handbook. I appreciate that sort of outlook. Anyway, I'm back to the day in, day out routine. A great author David Foster Wallace once had the opportunity to give a commencement speech and my recent employment got me thinking about his speech. It is well worth your time to read it.

Fully Hurtin' Loop

I dragged my buddy Todd out on a bike ride over the weekend. We went out and did the Fullerton Loop. Pretty dope. I can't believe I have lived here for so long and I have never done it before. Anyway, about 10 minutes into the ride, go figure Todd got a flat. He needs to install one of these on all of his bikes.

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the Rome SDS. Six years ago I had the pleasure of interning there. Seriously some of the best times ever! Rome is truly an awesome company and run right. I wish them many more years of prosperity.

This was my desk at Rome

I shot this ad in the summer of 2003

Spring Fling 2009

On May 1st, the 19th annual Spring Fling went down. I didn't come in first and I didn't coming in last. Good times for sure. Plus my Dad turned 74! Old men are funny as hell. Here is the obligatory Father and his three sons photo. I apologize for already removing my golf shoes prior to the picture being taken and the fact that we did not use the phallic driver pose.

Camo Can

I found this skate video over on Skate and Annoy, you can read about this video over there. I hope they don't mind I have re posted this thing. Anyway, By all means watch the whole thing or just go to about 17:40 and watch the love of Camo. Many of my bad nights have started out with a Camo Can. Or good nights, I suppose. It all depends on the morning.

the road

So, I'm reading a book right now called the road by Cormac McCarthy. My friend Paul Brown recommended it. I am about 30 pages out from being done with it and as I read it, it got me thinking about the old film Crazy People. More importantly the scene when he pitches the movie poster for The Freak, "It will fuck you up for life." This book is pretty heavy, so to make light of it, I thought I would watch this old clip. Will we ever have a day where there is truth in advertising?

Frezno Smooth

We're headed up to Fresno this Saturday for my buddy Paul's wedding. Not sure why they picked Fresno (Sanger to be exact) for their spot, but hopefully Loc Dog will let me borrow his bike. "Loc Dog don't ride for no trick ass bitches."

6 months down

So, today marks 6 months since I have been unemployed. I really didn't think it would last this long.

I guess Alex told me it would be this way.

Unemployment life on the dole
No work for me no work at all
City and slums and poverty too
Hanging about with nothing to do
Go on back now nobody cares
Just carry on with their own affairs
And when someone else starts something bad
Remember the trouble they've always had

No red tape, no red book
Eamon Andrews don't give a -
Boredom boredom in your minds
Hey you punks this is your life
